Sam Zuno - Chino Hills

At my jobsite, I’ve been having multiple faith-sharing interactions with my journeyman, Walter. He’s an outstanding individual who has a big interest in people’s beliefs. He believes there is a God, but he has no commitment to any religion, because he believes no one really knows. So here I go, full speed ahead, and participate with the Holy Spirit by moving Walter closer to Jesus, every day. I’ve been having some great conversations with him, sharing my faith, answering deep questions, and he’s been impressed with how deep I go with my knowledge, praise God.

So one day in particular, I’m working on an electrical box up in the ceiling. I’m on a ladder, so I can’t see who’s entering the room. I hear someone enter. I see another ladder moving in transit. This person sets up the ladder and comes up into the ceiling. It’s Walter. He has no tool bags on. He’s only in this ceiling, because he wants to talk to me, apparently. He asks me this question, “So is suicide a sin?” I blink and raise my eyebrows, and with my dark humor I ask back, “Who’s thinking of ending it all?” He said he was just curious. I gave him a biblical answer and it was a small nice discussion; he thanked me, walked down his ladder, and left the room. Now, I’m thankful he clarified that he had no interest in killing himself, but this discussion was a blessing. Because here is this non-believer, randomly coming to me, in the middle of my task, just to ask me a spiritual question. It was crystal clear that because of our many fruitful, spiritual conversations, and because I’ve discussed tough questions with grace, humility, love, and respect (which is what the Lord calls us to do, 1 Peter 3:15), he trusted to ask such a deep question to me. The soil is very well-gardened. I pray he finds Jesus soon.

Brothers and sisters, never turn down nor condemn anybody, especially your children/grandchildren, for having tough questions. Be ready to answer them, be ready with a REAL answer with much thought and reason. If you don’t know, tell them, and let them know that you’ll find it for them, and FOLLOW THROUGH. There’s enough stories people have out there that tell the world that Christians can be the most un-reasonable, un-intelligent people on the planet. Not anymore with us faith-sharers. 1 Peter 3:15 is still a command today. Always be ready. Blessings!
